Earlier this year, Motorola and Samsung both have launched their much-awaited foldable/flip phones. Motorola introduced this phone in November last year, and they said that it is going to be the modern version of their iconic Razr flip phone, the older Moto RAZR was introduced back in 2004. Samsung launched its flip phone in February 2020 in a Galaxy Unpacked event. Both of these devices are premium devices that cost around $1500. If you are looking for any flip phone, then these phones are best in the market, let’s compare their specifications in details.

It looks like Galaxy Z Flip & Razr have few things in common, but there is a clear winner in these flip phones. Motorola has come up with the retro design and secondary screen. Still, on the other hand, Samsung Galaxy Z flip has a good advantage over Razr, Z Flip comes with Snapdragon 855+ processor, and Razr has 710, Flip Z has more storage and RAM, and the battery is also big. The Samsung phone comes with a legit glass display as compare to the plastic on Razr. On the pricing side, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip is cheaper as compare to Razr, and it will be available to more potential customers. The Samsung Mobiles has learned a lot from the earlier mistakes which they have made in Galaxy Fold & came up with the second folding phone i.e., Galaxy Z Flip. The foldable phone market is still very new to all consumers, but they came up with a sleek & polished design that people have not seen before. You can take an example of how the Z Flip phone is made out of ultra-thin glass. Due to this material, the screen feels much better on your fingers as compared to RAZR. The Galaxy Z Flip phone gives a resolution of 2636×1080 as compared to RAZR’s 2142×876. Although the Snapdragon 855+ is not the fastest processor chipset in the market, But it is still a way faster than Snapdragon 710. Z Flip has an 8GB RAM & 256 GB of Storage with a 3300 mAh battery as compared to RAZR, which has 128GB Storage, 6GB RAM, and 2510mAH battery.

Now coming on to the camera, Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip has a fair advantage over RAZR. Z Flip comes with dual 12MP sensors on the rear side and has an ultra-wide & wide camera, from that camera you can also take selfies by using that tiny 1.06-inch secondary screen; otherwise, you can use 10mp selfie camera once you flip the phone. On Moto RAZR, it only has a camera on the Rear side, which is a single 16MP and no secondary or front camera. Another great feature of the Samsung phone is that it gives Qi wireless charging and the wireless power share feature allows you to charge your phone on the top of another. Additionally, it also has Samsung Pay with MST & NFC support. Now talking about the pricing, the Galaxy Z flip comes with a price of $1380 with a carrier like AT&T and Sprint in the US, you can also get the unlocked variant of the phone, and you can use any telecom carrier if you want. On Motorola Razr, you cannot do that, and it is limited to Verizon only with the price of $1500.

Here is the comparison of phone specifications.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip

  • Operating System: Android 10 & One UI 2.0

  • Front Camera: f/2.4 aperture, 10MP & 1.22um
  • Battery: 3,300 mAh

  • Price : $1380

Motorola RAZR

  • Secondary Display: 800 x 600, 2.7-inch & gOLED
  • Storage: 128GB
  • Memory: 6GB RAM
  • Rear Camera 1: f/1.7 aperture, 16MP & 1.22um
  • Rear Camera 2: NA
  • Front Camera: NA
  • Battery: 2,510 mAh
  • Charging: 15W TurboPower wired charging
  • Price: $1500

The crease in Motorola RAZR’s foldable screen isn’t quite visible as compared to Samsung Galaxy Z Flip. But the ultra-thin glass feels good to your fingers, and you can take that anytime over plastic even if that is a little noticeable. The Motorola RAZR got only one thing right, i.e., the retro design of the phone, which gives you a feel of old school flip phones of the early 2000s, and it’s for those people who look into the time and wants to have fond memories of their older devices, there is a little sense of Nostalgia with the Motorola RAZR phone. Another good thing about RAZR is that it has a significant secondary screen with a display resolution of 800 x 600, which is far better than the 300 x 116 display resolution of Samsung Galaxy Z Flip. But unfortunately, the retro design, aesthetic display, and large secondary screen aren’t enough for the Motorola phone, and it must stand with the specification & price of the Galaxy Flip Z. The Motorola RAZR was the first phone to market with Flip Foldable design, but the arrival of Galaxy Flip Z has made the flip phone worth buying.

Conclusion

You must have read a lot of good things about the Samsung phone & we are not biased with that. The Flip & Foldable phone technology is no doubt a great innovation by both companies, and it is just a beginning, In the future, there is a huge market for flip & foldable phones, but when it comes down to spending your hard-earned money, you should always go for a phone which is worth buying not just by the retro design, camera, aesthetics looks or by any recommendations. Overall, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip is an adequately built foldable phone, and Motorola RAZR is a bit letdown from its old school design.
